1774 – Lisabi led Egbas to its independence from Oyo Empire.

1825 – Sodeke first settled at Abeokuta

August 5, 1830 – Oyeneye Majekodunmi arrived at Abeokuta from Oko in old Oyo Empire.

1834 – Owus arrived at Abeokuta

1835 – Thomas Akitoye Majekodunmi, Balogun of Ikereku, Oyeneye’s second son, was born.

January 4, 1843 – Anglican Church missionary, Rev. Henry Townsend came to Abeokuta for the first time, accompanied by Sierra Leonean, Andrew Wilhelm.

January 10, 1845 – First Balogun Egba, Sodeke died.

1848 – Egba chiefs wrote Queen Victoria a letter and a response came in 1849.

1851 and 1864 – Abeokuta defeated King Gezo and his Dahomey forces.

August 8, 1854 – Resusication of Alake title and Okukenu was installed Alake of Abeokuta.

December 3, 1859 – Rev. Henry Townsend published the first Nigerian newspaper, Iwe Irohin at Abeokuta.

1860 – 1862 – Oyeneye Majekodunmi took part in Ijaiye War against Ibadan

1861 – Abeokuta had 1,500 converted Christians.

1862 – 1864 – Oyeneye Majekodunmi took part at Iperu War and one his captives became his wife.

August 30, 1862 – Alake Okukenu died.

1865 – Egba United Board of Management (EUBM) was formed on the directives of Governor MacCullum of Lagos and lasted till 1874.

1866 – Chief J. B Ijaola Majekodunmi, the most powerful Otun of Egba in history was born.

October 13, 1867 – During ‘IFOLE’ crisis, violence and banishment of Europeans took place at Abeokuta and Oyeneye Majekodunmi sent troops to help Ogundipe at Ikija.

November 28, 1869 – Oba Ademola I became Alake and reigned till December 20, 1877.

September 20, 1872 – Oba Ladapo Ademola II (1872-1962) was born.

1874 – 1875 – Imesi War at Dahomey. Oyeneye Majekodunmi helped his friend, Oba Tofa of Dahomey to defeat factional opponents. It was his last battle.

December 3, 1887 – Iyalode Egba, Madam Tinubu (1805-1887) died.

1877 – 1893 – War between Ibadan and a coalition of Abeokuta, Ijebu, Ekiti, Ijesha, Ife and Ilorin.

September 15, 1879 – Chief David Adekunle Majekodunmi (1879 – 1955), Lukotun of Egba Xtians, was born as one of the sons of Akilawon Majekodunmi.

1880 – French Roman Catholics arrived at Abeokuta.

January 26, 1884 – The first Majekodunmi, Oyeneye died

1888 – Chief Isaac Ademoye ‘Molaja Sodipo (1888-1966), legendary son of Mrs. Adeyoyin Sodipo was born.

1888 – Chief Isaac Babalola Ogun (Suada)(1888-1943), wealthy son of Mrs. Omiwemimo Ogun, Oyeneye Majekodunmi’s third daughter was born.

January 11, 1891 – First Baptism at Holy Trinity Church, Ikereku and one of the recipients was Susannah Ajirenike Majekodunmi(1842-1914), mother of Otun Egba J.B Majekodunmi.

April 30, 1891 – Rev. I.Oludotun Ransome-Kuti was born.

December 26, 1891 – Ariyibi Majekodunmi, first son of Oyeneye died.

December 31, 1891 – Bishop Ajayi Crowther (1809-1891), first African Bishop died.

January 18, 1893 – Treaty of independence between British Governor Gilbert T. Carter and the Egbas signed.

February 1, 1898 – William Alfred Allen, an Egba man organized and was appointed First Secretary for Egba United government (EUG).

March 2, 1898 – Balogun of Egba, Chief Aboaba banished from Egba by colonial governor, Sir Henry MacCullum.

1898 – Osile of Oke-Ona Egba title revived through the efforts of then Prince Ladapo Ademola.

1903 – Trouble at Kemta

May 25 – July 8, 1904 – Alake, Oba Gbadebo I (reigned 1889 to 1920), accompanied by then Prince Ladapo Ademola, Adegboyega Edun (formerly Rev. J.H Samuel) and Mr. R.B Blaize paid a state visit to England and were received by King Edward VII. He was given a Bible, as gift.

March 23, 1906 – Dr. Charles Olusola Afolabi Majekodunmi, son of David Adekunle Majekodunmi (1879-1955), first medical doctor in the family (1931) was born.

April 17, 1907 – Balogun Egba, Chief Aboaba reinstated.

June 1, 1907 – Afolabi Majekodunmi aka King of Boys (1907-1982), last son of Akitoye Majekodunmi(1835-1911) was born.

September 18, 1908 – Akilawon Majekodunmi, legendary son of Oyeneye Majekodunmi, father of Babalola, David Adekunle, Michael Aboaba, Omosanya, Amboja, Fidimaiye (to name a few) died.

December 21, 1910 – Foundation stone for Abeokuta Grammar School laid.

December 31, 1910 – Egba United Government (EUG) obtained a loan of 30,000 pounds sterling from the British government to build a water treatment plant. Payments were made back on schedule at the rate of 4,000 pounds sterling per instalment.

April 26, 1913 – Dr. John Adewunmi Sodipo, second son of ‘Molaja Sodipo, grandson of Mrs. Adeyoyin Sodipo, a renowned Lagos physician was born.

October 5, 1913 – Chief Simeon Adebo (1913-1994), renowned Nigerian public servant and husband of Regina Abimbola Majekodunmi (1921-2016), daughter of David Adekunle Majekodunmi(1879-1955) was born.

1914 – Massacre at Ijemo

August 17, 1916 – Dr. Moses Adekoyejo Majekodunmi, son of Otun Egba J.B Majekodunmi and famous Owner of St. Nicholas Hospital and 1962 Administrator of Western Nigeria was born.

June – August 1918 – Adubi War (Egba Uprising), a revolt against colonial taxes.

May 28, 1920 – Oba Gbadebo I (1854-1920) who reigned from 1898 to 1920 died.

September 27, 1920 – Coronation ceremony for the new Alake of Abeokuta, Oba Ladapo Ademola. He was selected on July 6, 1920.

May 9, 1921 – Chief Harold Sodipo(1921-2011), son of ‘Molaja Sodipo (1888-1966), grandson of Mrs. Adeyoyin Sodipo, successful businessman and politician, was born.

June 1, 1921 – Mrs. Regina Abimbola Adebo (1921-2016), daughter of David Adekunle Majekodunmi (1879-1955), wife of Chief Simeon Adebo was born.

December 14, 1921 – At a meeting of Egba Obas and high chiefs, presided by the colonial resident, Mr. Birell Gray, Chief J.B Ijaola Majekodunmi was confirmed as the Otun of Egba.

February 8, 1923, Otun Egba J.B Majekodunmi’s daughter, Amelia got married to Mr. J.M.M Osimosu, the Headmaster of Holy Trinity Primary School.

April 12, 1927 – Josiah Olutunji Majekodunmi(1927-1996), first Nigerian medalist in any international sports(1950 Commonwealth Games at Auckland, New Zealand) and pioneer Nigerian Olympic athlete (London 1948 and Helsinki 1952 Games) was born.

1928 – Dr. Bandele Majekodunmi (1928-1978), Anesthetist, son of Ayoade Majekodunmi, grandson of Akitoye Majekodunmi(1835-1911) was born.

June 12, 1928 – Dr. Gabriel Abolade Majekodunmi (1928-20..), Lagos-based physician, son of David Adekunle Majekodunmi (1879-1955) was born.

September 21, 1928 – Mrs. Patience Adeyoyin Sodipo, second daughter of Oyeneyin Majekodunmi died.

October 11, 1928 – Jacob Babaniji Gbolahan Majekodunmi(1899-1941), second son of Otun Egba J.B Majekodunmi arrived from Europe.

February 2, 1930 – Honorable Bolaji Majekodunmi, Ogun state legislator during Nigeria’s second republic, grandson of Sokunbi Majekodunmi was born.

1932 – Dr. Jacob Akinwunmi Majekodunmi, renowned Abeokuta-based surgeon, son of Baba Ijo Chief Adura Majekodunmi(1907-1995) was born.

March 11, 1934 – Special Thanksgiving Service for Adebiyi Majekodunmi (1905-1975), Chief David Adekunle Majekodunmi’s(1879-1955) first son/child on his return from England after qualifying as a lawyer.

March 18, 1934 – Dr. Sunday Adekunle Majekodunmi, son of Afolabi ‘King of Boys’ Majekodunmi, retired Army physician was born at Ijebu-Ode.

January 11, 1936 – Major-General(Dr) Charles Oladapo Majekodunmi (1936-2011), husband of 1962 Miss Nigeria, Yemi Idowu, first son of first doctor in the family, Dr. C.O.A Majekodunmi(1906-1991), grandson of David Adekunle Majekodunmi(1879-1955) was born.

December 26, 1936 – Oba Ladapo Ademola(1872-1962; reigned 1920 to 1962) laid the foundation stone for the present Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Ikereku.

June 4, 1939 – Dr. Adewunmi Majekodunmi of Robertson Medical Center, Surulere, Lagos, son of Dan F.A Majekodunmi(1901-1983; Holy Trinity Building Committee member), grandson of Ayorinde Majekodunmi, the sixth son of the first Majekodunmi, Oyeneye, was born.

January 12, 1940 – Benedict A. Majekodunmi, once the fastest Nigerian, hero of Mexico 1968 and Munich 1972 Olympics and 1972 All African Games was born. He is the son of Daniel Adebayo Majekodunmi (1914-2000) and grandson of David Adekunle Majekodunmi(1879-1955).

May 1, 1940 – Olufemi Majekodunmi, an international acclaimed architect, son of Dr. Koye Majekodunmi(1916-2012), grandson of Otun Egba J.B Majekodunmi (1866-1953) was born.

April 12, 1941 – Dedication of new Holy Trinity Anglican church building.

July 15, 1946 – Olusoji Adio Majekodunmi, retired Company Secretary at UAC Group, son of Hezekiah Ladipo Majekodunmi was born.

February 24, 1949 – Samuel Godwin ‘Dogo’ Majekodunmi (1890-1949), first son of Otun Egba J.B Majekodunmi died.

September 10, 1950 – Felix Olumuyiwa Majekodunmi, former managing director of Total Petroleum in Nigeria, Ghana and East Africa was born. He is a son of Lawyer Babafemi Majekodunmi(1921-1959), grandson of J.B Gbolahan Majekodunmi(1899-1941) and great-grandson of Otun Egba J.B Ijaola Majekodunmi(1866-1953)

December 3, 1950 – Exiled Alake Ladpo Ademola II returned to his throne at Abeokuta.

March 10, 1953 – Otun Egba (from 1920) J.B Ijaola Majekodunmi aka Baba Oju-Opo died.

November 6, 1953 – Hon. Justice Enitan Fadina was born. Youngest son of Mrs. Funke Fadina(1915-1991), who was the first daughter/child of Obadiah Majekodunmi (1889-1971), only son of the first son, Ariyibi, of Oyeneye Majekodunmi.

April 6, 1956 – Michael Aboaba Majekodunmi, a son of Akilawon Majekodunmi, first African manager at UAC Group died at 63+ years.

June 24, 1960 – Olawunmi Majekodunmi, African Table Tennis Women champion, 1976-1986, daughter of pioneer Nigerian Olympian, Josiah Olutunji Majekodunmi(1927-1996) and grand-daughter of Michael Aboaba Majekodunmi(1892-1956) was born.

December 27, 1962 – Oba Ladapo Ademola II died in his sleep.

September 17, 1972 – Chief B. Adura Majekodunmi(1907-1995) was installed Baba Ijo of Holy Trinity Anglican Church.

April 13, 1978 – Olufunmilayo Ransome-Kuti (1900-1978), a suffragist, mother of Olikoye, Fela and Beko died.

April 13, 1991 – Isaiah Adebola Sodipo (1910-1991), first son of legendary ‘Molaja Sodipo (1888-1966), pioneer student at St. Gregory College, Lagos, first African manager at G.B Ollivant died.

June, 1996 – Babafela Olamiji Majekodunmi, Ogboye of Oke-Ona Egba, second son of Baba Ijo Adura Majekodunmi died.
